Stepin
Vyacheslav Semionovitch, Professor, Ph.D., full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor Emeritus of
the Moscow State Lomonosov University. Born on the 19-th of August 1934
in Navlya (Russia). 1956 - graduated from the
Philosophical faculty of the Byelorussian State university of Minsk. When studying there attended
lectures and passed exams on theoretical physics at the Faculty of physics of
the above university. 1956-1959 - post-graduate courses of the Byelorussian University. 1959-1972 - an associate professor
at the chair of philosophy of the Byelorussian University. He is a professor since 1979, the
head of the chair of philosophy of the same university. Prof. V. Stepin is working
in Moscow at first as the Director of the Institute of Natural sciences and
techniques history attached to the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (now the
Russian Academy of Sciences) (1987) and since 1988 till now as the Director of
the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is the head
of the chair of philosophical anthropology of Moscow State Lomonosov University. Prof. V. Stepin is one of the
founders and directors (Department of philosophy) of the Russian State University for the Humanities, which was
formed as the first institution integrating academic science and high school.
In 1987 he was elected a
corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, in 1994 – a full member
of the Russian Academy of Sciences (philosophy of science).
He is an honorary consulting professor at the Institute of International Law
and Economics (Honkong, 1994), honorary doctor of the university of Karlsruhe
(Germany, 1999), foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of the
Republic Belarus (1998), of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2000),
president of the Russian Philosophical Society (2001). In 2001 he has been
elected an active member of the International Institute of Philosophy (Paris).
Prof. V. Stepin is a member of
editorial boards of the journals «Priroda», «Voprosi filosofii», «Chelovek»
(Moscow), of the «Journal for General Philosophy of Science» (Dordrecht,
Boston, London), he is the chairman of the editorial board of the series «From
the history of the Russian philosophy» which since 1988 has been publishing the
works of Russian philosophers such as N. Berdyaev, S. Frank, P. Florensky and
others.
Prof. V. Stepin is the author of
over 300 works including 18 monographs. He is an organizer and leader of
large-scale joint research programmes with foreign universities and research
centers (USA, Germany, France, China) on the problems of philosophy of
science and techniques, globalization and basic values of culture.
